H.J.RES. 73. |
John P. Murtha (D-PA 12th) |
“To redeploy U.S. forces
from Iraq. Statement and Resolution:
Section 1. The deployment of United States forces in Iraq, by
direction of Congress, is hereby terminated and the forces
involved are to be redeployed at the earliest practicable date. 2.
A quick-reaction U.S. force and an over-the-horizon presence of
U.S Marines shall be deployed in the region. 3. The United States
of America shall pursue security and stability in Iraq through
diplomacy. Will a Republican ever sign or is this too toxic?
Murtha staff not working with the coalitions. Similar language in
the Senate: Sen. Boxer (D-CA) SJRES 39. (104 Cosponsors including
Pelosi, Rep Slaughter, Louise McIntosh [NY-28] latest cosponsor,
No Republicans) (introduced 11/17/2005)

HR 4232. |
Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) |
"End the War in Iraq Act of 2005."
Would stop funding the War in Iraq. The bill would allow Defense
Dept. funds to be used only to provide for: the safe and orderly
withdrawal of all troops; consultations with other governments,
NATO and the UN regarding international forces; and financial
assistance and equipment to either Iraqi security forces and/or
international forces. Additionally, the bill would not prohibit or
restrict non-defense funding to carry out reconstruction in Iraq.
Similar to McGovern/Hatfield language during Vietnam War. Many
Members concerned about perception of failing to fund the troops
